PART A: PRIVACY POLICY
SfN-SG is committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA").
1. What Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with the Site, we may collect:
- Contact details: name, email address, and (where provided) institutional affiliation, when you sign up for membership, subscribe to our newsletter, or contact us.
- Membership and profile information: details you submit when signing up or editing your account, including any information you choose to display in the public Member Directory.
- Payment information: membership fees are processed securely by Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card or bank details; these are handled directly by Stripe under its own privacy and security terms.
- Account credentials login: information for the members’ area (“Manage Account”).
- Technical data standard: information such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited, collected automatically via cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6).
- Correspondence information: you provide via our online contact form or when you otherwise email us (e.g., job postings, event submissions, inquiries).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use personal data to:
- Process and manage your membership, including sign-up and annual auto-renewal;
- Maintain your public profile in the Member Directory (only with information you choose to provide/display);
- Send newsletters, event announcements, and other chapter communications;
- Respond to enquiries and administer the Site (e.g., careers/job postings, event registrations);
- Improve the Site and understand how it is used; and
- Comply with legal or regulatory obligations.
We do not sell your personal data.
3. Legal Basis / Consent
By submitting your information through our sign-up, contact, or newsletter forms, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal data as described in this Policy. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Section 8), subject to legal or contractual restrictions (e.g., we may need certain data to continue processing an active membership).
4. Sharing of Information
We do not share your personal data with third parties except:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf, such as Stripe (payment processing) and our website/hosting provider (WP Engine);
- Where required by law, regulation, or court order; or
- With your consent (for example, information you choose to publish in the Member Directory, which is visible to other site visitors).
5. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described above, or as required by law. Membership and account data is generally retained for the duration of your membership and a reasonable period thereafter for record-keeping purposes.
6. Cookies
The Site may use cookies and similar technologies to operate core functionality (e.g., login sessions) and to understand site usage. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect some features of the Site.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
Subject to the PDPA, you may:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you;
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- Withdraw your consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your data; and
- Request deletion of your account or Member Directory listing.

9. Children's Privacy
The Site is intended for researchers, academics, and professionals in neuroscience and related fields. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
PART B: TERMS OF USE
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using this Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. About SfN-SG
The Society for Neuroscience Singapore Chapter is a nonprofit membership organization that promotes neuroscience research and education in Singapore.
3. Membership
- Membership sign-up is completed through our online form, with payment processed securely via Stripe.
- Unless otherwise stated, membership automatically renews after one (1) year. A reminder email will be sent before auto-renewal.
- Members may manage or update their account and public profile via the “Manage Account” page.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or conduct inconsistent with SfN-SG’s mission and values.
4. Member Directory
Information you choose to include in your public profile (Member Directory) will be visible to other visitors of the Site. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you post and may update or remove it at any time via your account, or by contacting us.
5. Acceptable Use
When using the Site, you agree not to:
- Post or transmit unlawful, defamatory, infringing, or harmful content;
- Misuse job postings, event listings, or contact forms for spam or unrelated commercial purposes;
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to member accounts or Site systems; or
- Use the Site in any way that disrupts its operation or infringes the rights of others.
6. Intellectual Property
All content on the Site including text, logos, graphics, and design is owned by or licensed to SfN-SG, except where otherwise credited (e.g., third-party job postings or guest content). You may not reproduce, distribute, or use Site content for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.
7. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., Stripe, social media platforms, event partners, institutional pages). We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third-party sites, and your use of them is governed by their own terms.
8. Job Postings and Event Listings
Job postings, events, and similar listings are provided for informational purposes. SfN-SG does not guarantee the accuracy of third-party listings and is not a party to any resulting employment or contractual relationship.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The site and its content are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SfN-SG shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
