RIKEN CBS Summer Program
The Summer Program is designed to encourage and further the education of young neuroscientists and emerging researchers as they enter the international neuroscience community. Since its creation in 1999, nearly 300 prominent researchers and more than 1000 students have participated in the program. Having undergone a highly competitive selection process the students already have excellent records, but after this program, we hope they excel even more from what they learn in the program, as well as the scientific interactions they have with CBS researchers.
Summer Program 2022 Overview
The RIKEN Center for Brain Science (RIKEN CBS), located just outside Tokyo, Japan, offers a summer program to train advanced students interested in brain function. Applicants may choose either a two-month laboratory internship (Plan A) within a RIKEN CBS laboratory, or an intensive 5-day lecture course (Plan B) featuring a distinguished international faculty. Those participating in the internship may also enroll in the lecture course.
We encourage the students to take full advantage of the wonderful opportunities offered by this program to broaden the horizons of their research.
Attendees come from wide-ranging academic backgrounds and are usually enrolled in graduate courses or have recently embarked on postdoctoral research. However, candidates holding other positions are encouraged to apply.
All accepted students must be able to travel to Tokyo. Students from areas where travel is likely to remain restricted into next Summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, can apply and should also appreciate that they may be unable to take part*. If there is continuing uncertainty related to travel as we get closer to the course, there is a possibility that the meeting will switch to hybrid or virtual format. This decision will be taken some time after students are selected and informed. Regardless, we will use every tool at our disposal to make this an interactive, engaging and rewarding experience for all participants.
For students who enter the country for on-site participation, RIKEN CBS will provide funding for travel and accommodation if they do not have existing financial support.
